Missy Baker

She writes funny.

I’m a writer specializing in sharp jokes, heartfelt rom-coms, and, as you’re about to discover, slammin' website bios.I’ve written and shared a new joke every day for over a thousand days, and I won’t stop, no matter how much my family begs.Despite growing up in a tiny Midwestern town of 600 people, my career popped off early. From the time I could talk, I was booked constantly—telling jokes to my stuffed animals (using my grandma’s bed as a stage) and crafting elaborate, sexually charged melodramas for my Barbies.I eventually made it all the way to New York City, honing my stand-up comedy skills in front of drunk tourists and dive bar patrons.

I won Best Joke Writer in Brooklyn, beating out 63 other comedians in the first-ever One-Liner Madness joke contest.I was also featured in the print and online editions of Time Out New York for “Joke of the Week.” The punchline: “The best way to tell someone ‘sorry I’m being crazy’ is with 75 texts.” Very on brand... Sorry.

For 8 years, I was head copywriter at Someecards.com, churning out clever, attention-grabbing e-cards, social media captions, and SEO copy that drove millions of unique visitors to the site. Your aunt probably loved sharing these on Facebook.

I also wrote dedicated campaigns for brand partnerships with companies such as Netflix, HBO, and Red Lobster. Thanks to a Baskin-Robbins campaign, I was able to eat my own words, literally, on an ice cream cake. Delicious.

My third act finds me in sunny Los Angeles, copywriting for marketing agencies, ghostwriting for touring comics, and stealing Wi-Fi at overpriced coffee shops to write my next screenplay.

With my background in stand-up and real-world experience as a chaotic, type B, hot mess, my “YOU DID WHAT?!” experiences often make their way onto the page. The result? Feel-good comedies that are quirky, magical, romantic, and genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. When I’m not writing viral jokes, rom-com scripts, or humorous essays, you can find me composing and performing original songs for my dog Buzz, like the underappreciated banger, “You Are My Only Reason To Live, No Pressure,” which, despite his reaction, was actually pretty good.
